Paterson, NJ - United Way of Passaic County kicked off the 2017 Income Tax Assistance season at its Paterson location in the Center City Mall today. United Way of Passaic County, along with its partners, will prepare and file more than 1,000 tax returns for free this season, targeting low-income and senior households. Returning partners for this year's season include the AARP Tax Aide program and New Destiny Family Success Center, both in Paterson. New partners include New Hope Community Ministries in Prospect Park and the Volunteer Center of Bergen County in Hackensack.
Volunteers who are trained and certified by the IRS will prepare the tax returns of low-wage earners and seniors. United Way and its partners provide the locations and support services. Day, evening and Saturday appointments are available. Tax filers can make an appointment by calling 211.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is made possible with funding from Wells Fargo, the IRS, and PSEG Foundation. In Paterson, Center City Mall is providing donated space for the program.
United Way of Passaic County has been leading the program in Paterson for six years as part of its Financial Empowerment strategy to move Passaic County residents from poverty to self-sufficiency.
