FY 2010 Emergency Food and Shelter Program

United Way of Passaic County

The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP) was created in 1983 to supplement the work of local social service organizations within the United States, both private and governmental, to help people in need of emergency assistance. For fiscal Year 2010, the EFSP has announced an availability of funds to Passaic County non-profit programs.

The Local EFSP Board of Passaic County will determine how funds are to be distributed among the Emergency Food and Shelter Programs run by local non-profit service organizations in the county.  After review of applications, the Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

The EFSP is a restricted federal grant. Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to receive funds must:

·        Be private voluntary non-profits or units of government,

·        Have an accounting system

·        Practice non-discrimination

·        Have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs

·        If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.

Non-profit organizations interested in receiving an application for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must email or call Caroline Schneider,

Local Board contact, United Way of Passaic County. via email: carolines@unitedwaypassaic.org

Or via phone: 973-279-8900 ext. 207 to receive an application.
