About Backpacks for Kids!
Every summer United Way of Passaic County, in partnership with dozens of Passaic County organizations and businesses, hosts Backpacks 4 Kids! United Way’s school supply program – the largest of its kind in Passaic County–is part of a larger United Way initiative to increase the academic success and high school graduation rates of children in Passaic County. The program is a combined effort between area businesses and employees to provide backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Who receives the the backpacks?
Recipients in 2011 included over 900 students at Prospect Park Elementary School, 230 students at Washington School #2 in Passaic, the Paterson Education Fund and 20 additional non-profit partners. In addition to these organizations, over 200 backpacks were distributed to flood affected families throughout the county.
